Hello, i am a new member here from Malaysia,  and i found this forum is quite informational and helpful for students especially for the chemical engineering students. i have faced some problems in the aspen HYSYS simulation. I was trying to simulate a reaction process in the HYSYS, the reaction is:

allyl acetate + water ---> allyl alcohol + acetic acid

Condition:

80~120 deg in the reactive zone

40 theoretical plates (feed at no.15)

10 reactive plates

condenser & reboiler temperature: 500 torr

Reboiler estimate temperature: 102 deg

feed condition: mixture of allyl acetate + water at 75 deg, 1 atm, 40 ton/hr

desired product : bottom product 48.9% allyl alcohol, 0.14% water, 50.7% acetic acid

The problem im having is that the reactive distillation column is unable to converge after i add reaction to the column, if the feed is at no.15, where should the reactive zone be? i have tried first stage begins at plate no.15 and last stage at no.5, but it still does not work. please help!

Hi Jay Lok.

Maybe I could help you.

I have a question: Which fluid package are you using?
