Hi all,

I have two questions regarding noise calculation of a safety valve;

First question;

On the sizing sheet of VALVESTAR (Leser) I see that noise is calculated based on API 520 (actually it is based on 521). the calculation procedure is for open vent to ATM or flare tip. But, if the outlet of the PSV is connected to a closed system it (pipe at outlet) will have some noise reduction effect. Does anybody know how to calculate this noise reduction effect?

Second question;

is there any short cut calculation/estimation to convert Noise Pressure Level (in dB) to A-weighted Noise Pressure Level?

thanks in advance,

ARM

Yes, I know how to calculate it.

Hi Bobby Strain,

Would you please let me know how ? or if there is any reference for this type of calculation.

Thanks in advance

There must be references somewhere. I once had such, but it's long lost. But I simply subtract 40 db from the calculated valve sound level at 1 meter to allow for reduction with discharge to a closed system. Some suggest less noise reduction.
