To drain condensate from a steam heated HEX (15 m2; vertical) with very low pressure steam (approx. 0.2 barg) what would be the right kind of steam trap? Steam is on shell side.

The discharge is to a drain at atmospheric pressure. No backpressure due to piping rise etc. Condensate rate is approx. 250 kg/hr.

On other similar exchangers thermodynamic traps are working well. But those exchangers have a 0.5 barg steam pressure.

Would a thermodynamic trap have trouble discharging with only a 0.2 barg head? The head will always be positive.

If thermodynamic does not seem the right kind of trap then what might be a better choice?

If you want something that works, ask the steam trap supplier. If you don't find a suitable item, you can always use a control valve and controller. I would first look for sarco via google.

Hi Curious_cat ,

Take a look at the document attached .

You still have the possibility to ring the big names ( Armstrong , Spirax, Swagelok,....) .

Hope this helps
