Hi im having a problem on how should I start my design of an ion exchange column. I need to reduce the concentration of Calcium and magnesium in the brine solution to 20ppb using an ion exchange column. Here is my material balance for it  http://prntscr.com/88ovig. I will be exchanging sodium ion for this one. The resin type that i will be using is a chelating resin of micro porous structure with polystyrene matrix cross-linked with di-vinyl benzene substituted with weakly acidic aminophosphonic active group as recommended in my reference. My problem is idk where to start the design, equations I need to use and stuffs. I know you need to calculate the bed volume and regeneration time.

Does your company manufacture the ion exchange resins?

actually, im just a student..this is for my thesis, we need to actually design a plant..Our topic is production of chlorine and sodium hydroxide using cell membrane process, or chlor-alkali as most people know..

Ive found this link inside DOW http://dowac.custhel...hange/related/1and tried to based my design on it. My only problem is how will I size my vessel as to flow rate, i know vessel sizing depends on my given parameters but the design procedures DOW is giving me is general procedures which doesnt specify calculations to determine the exact values that I need for the actual design. Ive actually found an ion exchange design I want on purolite though I need the calculations still for it.
