Dear All,

I have a compressor unit with operating discharge pressure of 8100 psig and the design pressure of the discharge system with  9000 psig. Due to misinterpretation of B31.3 para. 302.3.2 (e) I tested the pipe with hydro test at 1.3 times the design pressure which is 11,700 psi in lieu of 1.5 times design pressure which is 13,500 psig. Do I need to re hydro my piping spools at 13,500 psig to qualify for B31.3? Would you please advise? I also would like to add that at 1.3 times hydro test, I am at around 67% of yield strength and at 1.5 times hydro pressure I am at around 76% of the yield strength.

Thanks

Vishal78,

If your design code is B31.3, then you should do the hydrotest of piping at 1.5 times of design pressure...
