Dear All,

1)What is the purpose of providing a degassing boot upstream an atmospheric storage tank.

2) In my scenario there is a degassing boot (Pop0.15barg) in-between a separator (Pop 3barg) and a storage tank(Pop 0.005barg).The vapor generated in the degassing boot is 1650 kg/hr and that in the tank is 240 kg/hr.  can i neglect the degassing boot here?

Please advise.

Hi,

1- The purpose, as the name implies, is degassing the incoming fluid which if not to be degassed before entering to storage tank can cause relevant emergency vent to be opened and the gas that not to be released to the atmosphere would be released there...

2- You cannot neglect the boot if the gas isn't allowed to be released to atmosphere...

Hi,

If existing VRU can receive such high vapor flow rate without tank pressurizing above its design pressure; it might degassing boot could be neglected...of course, final decision would be left to detail investigation of the system (storage tank, degassing drum, VRU,...) you described...

you have to cosider proccess uppsets and vapor pressure of liquid ... in

absence of gas boot high vapor content might cross your tank design pressure

Hello,

Many times I have seen that the gas boot vapour outlet is connected back to the tank in its vapour space. If that is to be done, how does it help in preventing the tank from overpressurising?

Dear,

As per my opinion you should not remove the degassing vessel. Let me share my experience with our crude tank. Very few occasion we found material over flow above the tank roof  from the rim seal and PSV also pop up. Most cases very small amount but one incident very high amount is carried over. I hope this will help to decide.

Good Luck

Manoj
