Hi everybody

I'd like to know suitable criteria for selection of a sump with proper size for an underground open pit containing a drain drum.Does size of the sump depend on the volume or surface area of the pit? or it only depends on size of the pump out suction pipe?

thanks

Hi,

It should be sized based on present pump' flow rate and head and also the rate by which the sump is to be filled with incoming fluid...

thanks a lot for your reply dear fallah

The incoming fluid to the pit and thereby to the sump is possible raining water and possible oily water during washing or maintenance of equipment in the pit. Should i consider also these fluids flow rate  in sizing of the sump (not pit i mean, only sump of the pump) or not? I mean, does these flow rates affect only on volume of the pit? or sump dimension will also affect from these flow rates?

On the other hand my question is about function of the sump. should it have only suitable size for pump or it should have suitable size to handle raining and washing water, too?

Regards

Hi,

The criteria is: it should be able to handle the incoming raining and washing water with intermittent operation (on/off based on low and high levels) such that the drain drum not to be submerged in overflowed liquid from the sump...
