How to calculate thermic fluid flow rate ,ie heating hydrocarbon fluid from 150 to 210 deg c in pre heater .

Actually i want to give specification to vendor for a control valve .

control valve is in thermic fluid line ie going to preheater where hydrocarbon is heating from 150 to 210 deg c using thermic fluid .

what data required and how flow rate of thermic fluid is caluculated for required heating of hydrocarbon from 150 to 210 deg c

sunil,

This is a simple heat balance calculation (Q= m*Cp*deltaT). However, a lot of data is missing from your side. Some of the data required is:

1. Mass flow of hydrocarbon

2. Avg specific heat of hydrocarbon @ ((150+210) / 2) deg C

3. Supply temperature of thermic fluid

4. Return temperature of thermic fluid

5. Specific heat of thermic fluid @arithmetic avg of supply / return temperature

Once you have all this data, the heat balance equation will give you the mass flow of thermic fluid.

Regards,

Ankur.

Thank you sir

1. Mass flow of hydrocarbon   --   6400 kg /hr

2. Avg specific heat of hydrocarbon @ ((150+210) / 2) deg C -- 0.42 kcal/kg 0c

3. Supply temperature of thermic fluid-- 282   0c

4. Return temperature of thermic fluid ---  272   0c

5. Specific heat of thermic fluid @arithmetic avg of supply / return temperature --  0.71  kcal/kg  0c

i caluculated i got  thermic fluid flow rate as 39 m3/hr.

But i guessed density of servotherm super oil  , i didnt got real value from data

Thanks sir

Thanks

Hi,

Another brand which is close to your working condition . You may compare the data on your hands with those I attached .

Good luck
