We are using a steam stripper for make epichlorohydrin.

It is a reactive stripping column (using tray)

and we are just inject a steam to the column bottom (about 34 ton/hr)

There is no steam distributor.

I know normally a steam distributor is important for stripping efficiency,

but we are not using it now,

and some information is need for the new investment.

Can you teach me about the effect of distributor technically?

Thank you.

A steam distributor may have some positive effect in case of a stripper with packing.

Packing has a very low pressure drop and is therefor a very poor redistributor of poorly distributed vapor entering its bottom.

I am not familiar with the epichlorohydrin process, but a typical tray has a pressure drop of 150 mm (6 inch) liquid column, so a vapor distributor below it will, in my opinion, not have a noticeable effect.

Vendors of distributors may claim otherwise, for obvious reasons.
