Dear All,

The new API STD 521 has now a new methodology for heat absorption due to external fire (pool and jet) for vessels as detailed in Annex A. An analytical equation for heat absorbed is provided (Eqn A.1) with the terms explained and ranges and recommended values for the equation terms provided in tables (Table A2 to A5). The heat absorbed value (Q) can then be used for sizing a relief device by obtaining the vapor load (W) using the equation Q / λ.

However, as usual, the API standard has left a term in the equation quite ambiguous and open to interpretation. This term relates to the equipment surface temperature which is exposed to fire (pool or jet).

I am interested to know some real temperature values or a narrow range of temperature values for pool and jet fires in pursuance of developing an excel workbook based on the Annex A.

Any experts in dealing with the mechanisms of pool and jet fire effect on vessels are requested to provide data related to surface temperature of the vessels exposed to pool / jet fires

Regards,

Ankur.
