Hi:

I'm working in a computer model for a NOx absorption column. I want to compare the model results with measurements of gas emissions from the tower. The emissions were monitored using the chemiluminescence technique, and we have results for NO, NO2, and NOx.

In NOx absorption modelling, it is generally assumed that the gases are in equilibrium:

2NO2<->N2O4

NNO+NO2<->N2O3

NO+NO2+H2O<->HNO2

3NO2+H2O<->2HNO3+NO

From what I read about monitoring systems, they generally assume that the gas contains mostly NO/NO2, but what about the other gases, from equilibrium constant values the quantities of other gases can be considerable.

*Has someone any  advice on how to account for the presence of other gases in this scenario?

*Can I simply calculate the quantity of other gases, from the known values of NO/NO2 assuming equilibria is reached?

*Or do I must consider NOx reported as the sum of all the species containing nitrogen?

Best regards.
