Hi Guys,

Basically I am currently designing a plant design for the separation of flurbiprofen into a 99% pure stream of its ® optical isomer. This is the first pharmaceutical plant I have ever designed, so I'm having a great deal of trouble finding the relevant legislation and literature with regards to the by-products, equipment and the positioning of the reagent storage in the plant design. I'm obviously going out on a bit of a limb here, but if any of you guys can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

The reagents I am using include; Flurbiprofen (R/S), phenylethylamine (resolving agent), methanol, toluene, hydrochloric acid and heptane. I need the safety classifications for all these materials as well as the consequences and potential damage caused by an uncontrolled release.

My equipment will include, a jacketed steel glass lined reactor, a vacuum oven.

And For legislation we can assume that the site will be located in the UK.

If anyone can send me useful literature on any of these topics that would be a big help!

Hi,

Consider to download the MSDS of all the chemicals , this is a must .

For some of the materials you should also use the search  engine in this forum ( Methanol, HCL) , you will get info about how to store them safely .

http://www.hse.gov.u...easareaclas.htm

The site above should help too.

Good luck.

If this is a real design for a paying client, you should look within your organization for expertise and guidance. If it is a student project, you should tell us that.
