Hi,

I am working on vacuum annealing furnace for which thickness to be calculated. The furnace is of Cylindrical

double wall type.Between two walls cooling water flows at 4.5bar pressure.Inside opeating pressure is 3 bar.

My question is to find thickness of shell,

1.Do i need to consider both external(water pressure) and internal pressure separately to find thickness for each pressure and then selecting larger among the two?

Or

2.Calculating the resultant pressure=4.5-3=1.5 bar inside pressure and calculating thickness for this pressure.

What's the right method as per ASME?

lingesh,

You should consider higher thickness resulting among two below situations:

1) Maximum pressure between two walls and, at the same time, minimum pressure inside...

2) Maximum pressure inside and, at the same time, minimum pressure between two walls...
