I am stuck in part (iv).

I don't know if how to begin this part of the question.

I think part (iii) and (iv) are the same but I'm not sure because even if we add another hole in part (iv) the volume of liquor discharged would be the same as part (iii). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I think the material balance in the tank is related to the pressure head, which is complicated by the velocity of fluid in the long pipe (pressure drop) according to the Bernoulli Equation.

geo123,

To understand what nicolaai 823 is explaining to you , consider a worksheet I did for similar Problems taking account different Tanks shapes .

I'm not trying to do your homework .

Good Luck

Hi,

So we have a drain valve and a hole. When I did this I assumed that there is no discharge through the bottom of the tank and I only focussed on the discharge through the hole in the side of the tank. I tried comparing the vertical distance and horizontal distance travelled by the liquor after it leaves the tank with the height of the bund and the width of the bund.
