Hi guys ;

I'm new at depressurisation and i want to know if the hysys dynamic depressurisation tool can calculate the orifice area for a compressor blowdown valve or is it imperative to do a dynamic simulation to estimate the orifice area ?

thx

I would suggest a good textbook discussing operations with compressors, also you may review the applicable codes which may contain useful information....

If there are not specific requests you may consider a compressor as another vessel and utilize the procedures available in most simulators (Aspen, Chemcad, Prode, VMG etc.)

however a problem when depressuring compressors and other vessels with complex internals could be the max velocities (or some other conditions as for example oil foaming etc.) in certain sections, note that simulators (usually) do not consider these parameters then, for these cases, I prefer custom made procedures (I utilize Excel / Matlab / Mathcad or similar software plus a process library, in my case Prode)
