Hello every1 :)

question:

I heard about a unit that's being used to reduce the concentration of heat stable acidic salts in the amine (I have never heard about it in uni).

I  don't know the name of the unit or the mechanism it uses to reduce the concentration of HSAS.

It's being operated in winter only and I don't the reason for that either.

If you have heard about a similar equipment, please share your experience.

Thanks a lot,

BAL

Ion Exchange unit can be used to reduce and maintain the concentration of heat stable salts/formates. we have one online in our plant. it works great.

Only question we have is how low is a good concentration? vendors say it shd be <500 ppm. to avoid corrosion issues.

I've seen something called AmiPur that essentially removes some heat stable amine salt, and I've attached a brochure in case you're interested.

Regarding your question why this HSS removal unit only operates during winter, it's better to know what kind of amine system you're talking about, i.e. acid gas removal or tail gas treatment or LPG desulfurization etc and with what solvent. HSS formation can be caused by a lot of things, but based on the little information presented here, I can only speculate that the reason might be traced back to upstream operations, which can be different between summer and winter scenarios.

Hello everyone,

We are associated with an Italian company which uses Electrodialysis technology to remove Heat Stable Amine Salts (HSAS) from Amine solvents.

They have a portable unit installed in a 40 ft container to serve Amine Sweetening Units at different refinery and gas plant locations within GCC and Indian subcontinent. They supply permanent HSAS removal units as well, if build up of HSAS is rapid.

Usually, HSAS Content is brought down to less than 1 wt%.

Let me know, if some one wants to know more about this technology and service.
