We have a molten sulfur storage tank 86'D by 21'H connected to a vapor recovery system. The vapor recovery system will be disconnected and the tank will be vented to the atmosphere. Tank details are:
- 288 deg F at sulfur/air interface in tank (tank air temp is lower than 288F)
- quantity (10), 8 inch goose neck vents on the perimeter of tank for in-breathing/out-breathing
A chimney (vertical pipe out of the top) will need to be designed to vent 30,000 scfh to the atmosphere to keep H2S conc. below 1%.
Options for a design basis are:
- Natural convection based on closing goosenecks vents and chimney design to obtain desired airflow
- Install eductor/ejector on the chimney to maintain desired airflow through tank (this seems the better alternative)
- Something we haven't thought of yet.
I am looking for references to formulas that will address this issue or an example so that I can begin to develop basis for design.
Thanks for any information you may provide
