All,
The sour water analysis from a high pressure seperator is showing a chloride content of 6 ppm. Is there some way to back calculate how much is there in the VGO feed to the unit?
Thanks

Calculate the total amount of chloride leaving the unit and then you will know the total amount of chloride entering the unit.

Hi Siva73. Before answering your question it is needed to know the source of chloride in your unit. Is it inorganic chloride (i.e. salts) or organic chlorides (usually coming as contaminants into the crude)?
If the source is inorganic then you need to check your feed by salt content (ptb), if the source is organic then check for organic chloride on VGO feed.
I usually have dealed with crudes with 2-5 ppm of organic chlorides which in the naphtha cut is 5-6 times the concentration of organic chlorides in the crude. This because the most of the chlorides decompose in the boiling range of the naphtha cut.
