Dear all,

could somebody point me to correlations used in the industry to predict critical velocity to transport sand in horizontal pipeline, gas (mainly methane) being the only carrying fluid - gas solid flow correlations that we could run in an excell spreasheat. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Florence

Florence,

Use the search engine ( Near FAQ)  in this forum , you should find your answer .

Search for erosional velocity NG sand .

Thanks Breizh. If erosional velocity could also interest us, I would like to determine the minimal gas velocity to carry all the sand particles and avoid particle settlement. I found some models mainly verified with laboratory experiments (often with much smaller pipe diameter than what I have). Therefore, I was wondering what the oil and gas industry is using.  Florence

hi Florence ,

Take a look at this thesis to support your work.

Good luck

Thanks a lot Breizh, I really appreciate your help. The thesis is an interesting work but the sand is mainly carried by the liquid phase as it is a liquid/gas/sand system. In my case, I do not have liquid just gas and sand, not sure it can be applicable.

Florence
