Hi forum

I'm going to start working on detailed design of Air Separation Unit (ASU).  Products are liquid and gaseous O2, N2 and instrument air. All main equipment is completely prefabricated and I only have to interconnect it and provide utilities.  I'm newbie in ASU.  As I've found, there are worth design practices of EIGA (European Industrial Gases Association).  Can anybody share worth practices for liq/gas O2/N2?  Materials, distribution systems, safety codes, flamability, and exposion hazard for rich O2 mixtures?  Any P&IDs of existing facilities?

Hi forum

ASU design is a broad domain. Please elaborate your scope.

(a) Whether the Process cycle selection is over,i.e Air flow to Cold Box is fixed,Turbine and MHE thermodynamic performance detailed ?

( B) Are you doing detail enginnering of TSA,Pre Cooling ,Column Design,Back up area, line sizing?

EIGA is more than sufficient in directing you to mug up Air Separation Unit practises. Please read those docs properly.

In addition please download Whitepaper's doc on Reboiler Condenser safety.

Preliminary design (feasibility study)

1. O2 25barg 10'000 Nm3/h

2. O2 5 barg 10'000 Nm3/h

3. N2 27 barg  7'000 Nm3/h

4. N2 5 barg 13'000 Nm3/h

5. N2 165 barg 300 Nm3/h

6. Liquid N2 100 kg/h

7. Liquid O2 - probably

8. Instrument air 5 barg 20'000 Nm3/h

Feasibility study, contract, building area are over.

FEED, basic design and complex equipment are supplier responsability (boundaries of scope of supply isn't defined yet). I only have to comply local codes, obtain regulatory authority approvals, design auxilliary equipment and communications. I would like to prepare and get to know potential problems. Mmmm, you know - just to put right questions.

OK, thanks

Bad, it might be useful
