Hi,

 

i went yesterday to a petroleum production site.  They told me the estimation of production here is 30 000 barrel/day.
they have 2 floating roof storage tanks with a capacity of 30 000 barrel of each one.

I don't understand why they take 6 days to fill the tank??!!!!  Normally one day would fill it.  Could I get an explanation?

And how can we calculate the time needed to fill a tank?

Process16,

 

They probably speak about of total production (water+crude oil), then if each tank fills every 6 days, the crude oil production is 5000 barrel/day (5000 bopd), and the water production is 25000 bwpd, this imply that initial BSW is 83.3%.

If you correctly say the real conditions, there may be a mismatch between the capacity of tanks and filling pumps or safety systems of tanks which has made some limitations for tank filling.

For instance the flowrate of pumps might be low 208 bbl/hr =30,000 bbl in 6 days.

Or breathing valves or inert gas blanketing are not designed well.

If the system is well designed and works without malfunction, there is no limitation to load it within a few hours.

 

You should check with them.
