Dear all,

To control the pressure of a distillation column I have seen the following two methods:

1.  Using one (1) Split Range Pressure Controller

2.  Using two (2) Pressure Controllers

If one (1) Split Range Pressure Controller works fine, why then some engineers specify two (2) pressure controllers on the overhead of a Fractionator Column?

I appreciate your valuable help on this topic.

You need to show us your system. We don't know anything about it.

Two controllers are simpler for everyone to understand at a glance. I would normally specify two pressure controllers. Some reasons based on my own opinion: 1) The cost difference is minimal. 2) Controls are clearer on P&ID. 3) Operator training is easier. 4) There is potentially more flexibility in operation. 5) Set point limitations can be programmed to mimic any split range controller. 6) There are no significant reasons not to specify two controllers.

Hi Bobby, I tried to include here a sketch (copy and paste) from power point but I cant do it.

Pilesar, thanks for your reply, then it seems that two Pressure Controllers over one Split Range Pressure Controller is more of a matter of preference.

Thank you Bobby

Thank you Pilesar.

If you move the sketch to PDF or Word, you can attach it.
