DEAR SIRS,

DOES PTFE LINE REQUIRES COLD INSULATION,THE FLUID IS CHLORINE DIOXIDE........

Hi,

I think, in general doesn't require; but actually it depends on lowest ambient temperature and PTFE pipe thickness...

Please be specific.  What state of Chlorine Dioxide are you handling and why are you concerned about "cold insulation"?   Do you intend to avoid heat transfer from the ambient into the PTFE (lined?) pipe?  What's inside the pipe, liquid or gaseous ClO2?

ClO2 is atmospherically a liquid at +11 oC and freezes into crystals at -59 oC.  What are your conditions of pressure and temperature?

From Wikipedia:

"At gas-phase concentrations greater than 30% volume in air at STP (more correctly: at partial pressures above 10 kPa), ClO2 may explosively decompose into chlorine and oxygen.  The decomposition can be initiated by, for example, light, hot spots, chemical reaction, or pressure shock.  Thus, chlorine dioxide gas is never handled in concentrated form, but is almost always handled as a dissolved gas in water in a concentration range of 0.5 to 10 grams per liter."

Dear Art sir,

We are having 10TPD chlorine dioxide preparation plant, R8 Process (Prep of Clo2 by Methanol, Sodium chlorate and Sulphuric acid).

The final output  clo2 is in liquid form and temperature is 10 deg. we have to transfer the final clo2  around 250 meters, the moc of pipe line we used here is PTFE, the atmosphere temp here in summer is arround 48 deg, is cold insulation required?

Hi ,

Can you check in a lab the ability of this material to freeze ?

This will give you the answer .
