Dears,

How to calculate the residence time of the liquid in a kettle vaporizer?

I am using HTRI to model my exchanger and I don't know if such information is available and calculated by the software.

Regards,

Why do you need such a value?

Bobby,

I need it because I am evaluating a chemical reaction that takes place in the kettle.

You might try Google. Meanwhile, I would use 50% of the volume in the shell (minus tube volume) below the liquid level. And treat it as a stirred tank reactor, not plug flow. Most important for you is to develop your kinetic model first. Bother with the details last. After all, this is only an academic exercise.

Thanks Bobby,
As far as I know the residence time = the Volume / the volumetric flow rate. The volume can be calculated from the data of HTRI but what about the volumetric flow rate? Do we consider the liquid rate or the average of the liquid & leaving vapor volumetric flow rate ?
Does the tube length in HTRI include the U bend?

Sorry for my many questions
