Hello, I am a student currently relaxing before starting my undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering. I have a lot of time to spare and have heard that this degree involves a lot of complex maths. Could someone give me some advice on what topics I should be particularly familiar with? Differential equations for example?

So far, only my dad has recommended that I solve the Cambridge maths entrance exams: STEP.

Any help is appreciated.

It is only that I would like to be sponsored by a company or to receive some form of a scholarship.  Moreover, I am very keen to begin learning.

Hi,

You should review your math courses in high school.

For your information, calculus I & II, and also differential equations are so helpful.

You will involve with partial differential equations and Integral to solve Chem eng problems.

Hello,

Maybe You can review the following books:

"Applied Mathematics in Chemical Engineering", by Mickley-Sherwood-Reed, McGraw-Hill, Second ed., 1957, USA.

"Mathematische Methoden in der Chemischen Technik", by Batuner-Posin, Verlag Technik, Vol. I (1958) and II (1961), Berlin (in German).

They are basic "olds" books, with many hand made calculations.

Napo.
