Hi everybody. I have been simulating the production of diethyl ether with ethylene as a byproduct . The reactor outlet is 10% of ethylene , relative to diethyl. I must obtein a purity of 99.5 % , but when I try to design the column I get the error "zero diagonal in column matrix" . I tried specifying temperature in condenser in order to use cooling water (38ªC).

Can anybody help me? Iattached the simulation file .
Thanks in advance.

You must use a lower pressure operation. Typically pressure to operate the condenser at -20 F or below.

Is there a chance to operate using cooling water instead of a refrigerant circuit? If the pressure is low woudn´t be more difficult to separate the Ethylene? Thanks for the answer

Granada,

Just a pointer - the critical temperature of Ethylene is 9.4°C.
