We have Niagara Bowler Wet Surface Air Cooler installed on our compressor gas outlet. Someone help me for the quality of water to be used in these coolers.

Service: Sales Gas Cooler

Mass Flow Rate (lb/hr): 20,540 lb/hr

Temperature In / Out: 160 / 115 oF

Design Heat Load: 590,100 Btu/hr

Cooling Tube Material: SA-249-316/316L SS

Header Material: SA-240-316 SS

Basin / Plenum Material: Carbon Steel, H.D.G.A.F (HOT DIPPED GALVANIZED AFTER FABRICATION)

Hi ,

You should ask the person /company in charge of the treatment of the cooling water in your facility , he knows the quality of your make up water .

We have below mentioned water available at our site.

 

Demin Water: pH (6.98), TDS (0.5 mg/L) & Conductivity (1.02 µS/cm)

Portable Water: pH (6.91), TDS (11.2 mg/L) & Conductivity (24.0 µS/cm)

Utility Water: pH (6.91), TDS (1433 mg/L) & Conductivity (2810 µS/cm)

Hi ,

To me your water (all) is good quality water !  Utility water should be used .

Looks like chlorides are high in your utility  water. What is the chloride and bicarbonte of utility water? Chlorides are detrimental to SS and bicarbonates will form scalle. Calculate Langlier Index and Stability Index (LI) and (SI). Both  will tell about the nature of water (scale forming or corrosive).  You have to action accordingly..

Yes, we used utility water but cooler water spray nozzles frequently chocking due to deposition of salt particles causes tripping of compressor at after cooler high temperature.

Yes Chlorides are 584 mg/L and Sulfates are 380 mg/L in Utility water.

I want to share some pics of salt deposited in water spray nozzles but I don't know how to paste pics here.
