Hello Dear,

I want to understand where we need to instal a circulation pump - upstream of reboiler or downstream? Is any difference for process?

Another questions is why we need this pump, just tofor pumping bottom product to storage? Or we need to provide circulation back to column?

Please see attaced pictures with different installation of pump

Thanks

Hi Dmitry

Normally, we don't need a pump in reboiler circulation, either kettle or thermosyphon. But for thermosyphon reboiler, a pump is probably required when high viscosity fluid is our bottom product because it can not perform the natural circulation (this is also called "Force Circualtion Reboiler". The pump has to be located at upstream of the reboiler to ensure there is only liquid entering into the pump.

For the product pumping, all low pressure operated columns have a bottom pump for product transfer to downstream unit or storage tank.
