Hello all,

I am process engineer working for an engineering firm.I am new here in this community and need advice on one of the issue i am facing while doing tank farm project. We have designed a double walled storage tank of design pressure 0.2 bar.g and O.P/O.T of 0.15 bar.g/-5 degree C. For safety of storage tank, we have provided PVRV with set pressure of +1833 mmWC/-43 mmWC and also PSV with set pressure of 0.2 bar.g. As the fluid should not get in contact with Oxygen, Nitrogen is provided for vacuum in emergency case.

Sir, while having discussion with PVRV vendor, they are asking about the nitrogen pressure at vaccuum port. The actual vacuum setting of valve is completely dependent upon nitrogen pressure i.e. vacuum setting is selected such that valve should open at required set vacuum of 43 mmWC.

Regarding Nitrogen supply, client is interested to go with nitrogen cylinders which is yet not finalised.

Is there any standard which provides guidline for deciding the nitrogen pressure at PVRV vacuum port for low pressure atmospheric tank? I am confused with that nitrogen pressure at vaccuum port of PVRV.

Please provide your kind suggetions.

Thankyou

Hi,

You can set the Nitrogen PRV outlet pressure at 50 mmWC.

During vacuum the moment tank pressure will go to zero then the 50 mmWC positive pressure of Nitrogen will push the dead weight (Pallet) on vacuum port of set pressure 43 mmWC. It will allow the nitrogen to come in the tank.

Thanks

Swapnil

Thankyou for your response sir.

Just because of curiosity i am asking, how we have decided 50 mmWC?  is there any standard which governs the same?
