Dear All,

I'm quite a newbie in HYSYS simulations and I've got a question for much more experienced users.

I need to simulate the heat input in a pipe that is both electrically traced and insulated, also considering the ambient conditions (wind): using the Gas Pipe feature, I've noticed (if I'm not wrong) that there is no explicit way to do that. In your opinion, which is the correct way to simulate it ?

Many thanks

Daniele

You don't need Hysys.

You need to calculate the insulation losses at the temperature you want to maintain.

Tracing is to compensate for heat losses to ambient, not to heat the fluid inside the pipe.

You you can simulate the piping as adiabatic and then calculate the tracing for the insulation losses.

For insulation losses you can use a software made available for free (in fact, not free, but for a registration) by the insulation institute.

Also, search "tracing" in this forum, and you will find very good posts and links to software to calculate it.

Regards
