Dear All,

I am very new member on this forum, I am very new in chemical industries working as a graduate process engineer.
My lead has assigned a tasked,to reduce the loss of toluene in the process

Process description-

Stage- 1 acid chloride water distillation-

In batch reactor of msglr- first we are adding toluene and than acid chloride ( raw material made in another stag moisture content is 26 ℅), to remove water azeotropically toluene being added, the azeotropically distillation being carried out at 55 * c temp under 700 mm hg vacuum, the input of toluene in this stage is 2400 kgs.

After collection of water again we are going fir toluene distillation at high vacuum of 740 mm hg, and only 1400 kgs of toluene we are able to collect, it's all passing through steam jet ejector..

Details if equipment-

Reactor- cap- 3kl with vapour column of size 6"
Heat exchanger- primary HTA- 22 m2 moc is graphite ( due to corrosive nature of vapor) vapor entered in tube side the shell side is chilled water inlet at the temp of 10 °c and pressures 2 kg/cm2g . One vent condenser is also provided,HTA is 6.37 m2 and sane utility..vent condenser is connected with steam jet ejector..can any one pl suggest me how to proceed fir the problem
Thanks you very much

Can you please post at least a hand drawn sketch of the process?

It is difficult to follow what you are trying to do.

Rajneesh,

Your heading for the topic is how to design a vacuum condenser whereas the problem you describe is to reduce toluene loss. From your description it is very difficult to relate these two. It seems you want to troubleshoot the azeotropic distillation system and not "design a vacuum condenser". However, it is not possible to decipher anything from your message unless you clearly present a process flow sheet and tell us exactly what operating issues you are facing.
