Respected Sir,

I am doing a final year project on Ethylene oxide process design. I have selected capacity of plant as 100 tons per day, its 95 kmole/hr.

            There are two reactions

2 CH2=CH2 +  O2 → 2 CH2-CH2O

CH2CH2 + 3 O2 → 2 CO2 + 2H2O -----------side reaction

conversion is 15%

and yield is 90%

We are using direct oxidation with 99% purity of oxygen and ethylene.

I have attached excel sheet in which i have done some work, but i do think so material balance is completely wrong but sir you can refer simplied block diagram in the excel sheet.

We are referring Elementary principles of chemical process by felder and rousseau, even though we are confused because of recycle and purging. So how to start for the material balance? Can you share some reference material balance sheet of actual flow diagram which is with recycle and purge.
