Heating Time In Glass Lined Reactor

We have multiple glass lined reactors in our plant. Heating time in one particular reactor comes to around 120 minutes only whereas for others it is around 180 minutes. The batch size and reactor size is the same. Same reaction is happening in all the reactors.

 

I did get the steam traps inspected and they are working fine for condensate removal.

I also cleaned the jacket of the other reactors using jacket cleaning solution(Provided by De detrich).

 

Someone please suggest what else i can check to reduce the heating time?

 

We use 7 kg/cm2g steam for heating.

hi,

 

same rotation speed for all the agitators?  Same type of agitators ( size ), same glass lined manufacturer, thickness of the glass?

Yes sir, the agitator is of the same size and type with the same rotation speed.  Thickness of the glass would have varied with age...

 

Earlier (about 3 months back) from the same reactors we were able to do it in 120 minutes but now it is 180 minutes or longer.

There are other equipment(s) in the same steam line that could be draining a bigger part of your steam flow?
I had a similar problem with a chilling line: a slight modification (removal of small obsolete line section)reduced the head loss in one branch of the plant, reducing the flow in another. This reduced the chilling rate and increased the time for 20% in that second section.

Try to measure

 

Step-1:

 

Steam header parameters: Pressure, temperature and dryness factor

 

Inlet Steam Parameters: i) Steam Pressure ii) Temperature iii) dryness factor of steam

 

Steam condensate Parameters: i) Flow rate ii) Temperature

 

Step-2:

  1. Suggesting process engineer to study kinetics of the same mass in the laboratory, this may be simultaneous heat and mass transfer controlled reaction.
  2. Monitor the catalyst addition timing and quantity.

Iam suggesting based on my personnel experience, please do  your homework before implementation.
