Dear Sirs,

I'm process engineer , I have a question about cooling water basin pump suction.

The pump suction bellmouth is a device to reduce entrance frictional losses and foot valve is a check valve.

I'm wondering if bellmouth and foot valve are installed together.

Please share experience if any.

S.J,

I don't think there would be any concern regarding installation of bellmouth and foot valve together. What is your concern?

I checked several projects. I have never seen both installed together.

I'm just wondering if both together could be installed.

S.J,

Are they in suction lift situation?

Of course, it could be said that if both installed together; smooth entrance of liquid due to bellmouth may be offset by passing through the foot valve. Then, technically no benefit for installation together...

SJ,

The Suction Bell Mouth is designed to maintain effective suction during the final tank emptying or “stripping” of liquid cargos in todays’ modern vessels. The unique design of the bellmouth minimizes hydraulic loss and prevents vortex and gas formation when pumping liquids from the bottom of the tanks.

Normally the cooling water basin is full.

Napo.
