Dear Sir,

The query is regarding two reciprocating gas compressors ( Engine Driven) presently installed @ some location (Gas field) We intend to relocated these compressors to new site location (Site data for new location is attached for your review). The main driver for is Waukesha P9390 GSI Engine running on sweet dehydrated gas. These compressors has been commissioned in 2012. Gas available for fuel gas is dehydrated gas having up to 300 .ppm H2S. According to response from OEM, the de-rate of the engine under 122F ambient temp  and present fuel gas composition, the de-rate is around 2.2%.

As per our fuel gas analysis the LHV is 752 BTU/ft3.. Please note that, this low BTU gas would fall outside of rated LHV range of the standard fuel (850-2350 BTU) of P9390GSI. It might be possible to make adjustment when the engine is on site to allow enough fuel into the engine to run properly by making adjustments to the gas/air setting but couldn't guarantee the operating performance of the engine which could only be determine as per actual at site.

The below are the queries:

1)  If this gas can be used as a fuel for Waukesha P9390 GSI Engine, If not what further modification will be required in the engine enabling it to operate on fuel gas?

2) Please advise engine combustion issues and its resolution with new site (site data is attached) ?

3) What rotary aspects must have been addressed, if an engine driven 3 stage reciprocating compressor is undergone modification to convert it into 2 stage  by bringing 2&3 stages in parallel.

4) Your expert opinion is requested to any rod load balancing issues ,cylinder suction and discharge valve workability and reliability, engine rpm adjustments on lower engine power that design etc..

Your questions should be addressed to the engine/compressor manufacturer.

My experience is to have the manufacturer or rep provide all the information for a new service.
