Dears,

I am a beginner user of HTRI and I would like to know the difference between the rating & simulation modes in HTRI?

I noticed that when I use simulation mode, the degree of freedom is less by one than that of rating mode e.g. the simulation does not need the temperature of the hot fluid in simulation mode. Also, simulation mode almost always results in an overdesign factor of 0%.

If I know the geometry of my exchanger and I want to predict the outlet temperature of the hot stream. What mode shall I use?

Regards,

Vegeta,

Answering your question in a quick way, Rating mode is used when you want to investigate if your exchanger is suitable for a new service. The result will be the ratio of heat transfer area required/area available.

Simulation mode to be used when you are trying to predict the outlet conditions based on changes to the inlet conditions (Hence your 100% area). In your case, simulation mode is appropriate.
