Hello all,

 

I'm trying to understand the fluid system with multiple pumps in the network.

I've attached herewith a graphical approach of the system with single pump in operation and finding the operating point of the pump and flow to each outlet, File name: Pump system.jpg.

Could someone help me in finding the reference material or book for the similar graphical approach of finding the Operating point of all pumps and the flow to each outlet for the network shown in File name: Pumps in system.jpg.?

 

I think, this graphical approach seems to be more clear for understanding the process of flow divisions.

The pipeline segments are named as 1, 2 and 3 for convenience.

 

Assumptions: The pipeline dimensions and pump characteristics are known. All are centrifugal pumps.

For your question about system pump with branches.

I think the "Handbook of Chemical Engineering Calculations" 3ed  by Chopey, pages 6.47 to 6.52 will be useful.

Hello All,

 

Could someone help me in understanding the above mentioned problem? All references i've gone through are about the system with single or multiple pumps in circuit, but located before the circuit is divided into branches.

Any reference on the design of water distribution system to a city? i guess this circuit may have multiple pumps in multiple branches.

Dear Breizh and members,

I like the spreadsheets attached to the previous post.

I just noticed that some calculated pressures in the "network.xlsx" are negative. The trouble can be easily overcome by specifiying non negative values for the pressures in the Solver.

Anyway, I used the same approach to optimize a complicated network of sour water with 3 strippers and 2 tanks in a refinery....a funny and good job :-)

Similar approaches are also valid for fire water and flare systems but nowadays several commercial s/w are available to solve the relevant problems.
