Hi,
Is it allowed to introduce cooling water, for controlling over heating, in a coil which is carrying steam for heating purpose? any devastating or harmful effect to the coil?
Any suggestion is highly appreciated.
Many thanks.

It is not normally done, due to a number of reasons. What are you trying to achieve? If we know the background, more helpful information may follow. Are you having a requirement of a desuperheater?

Hi,
Actually my purpose is not to desuperheat as steam is already in saturated condition.
Same inlet line is used for cooling water supply line and steam line. During heating by steam seems to be very high or rising rapidly, I would like to stop steam and supply cooling water through same line. I do not feel comfortablility in that sort of operation. But I really need to know what might happen in that case. What are the reasons for which it is not normally done?
Any link or information is highly appreciated.
Thanks

This is practiced in certain industries. Heating and cooling media can pass through the same jacket/coil surrounding a vessel with proper instrumentation/control.
A better approach is to have an indirect medium that can be heated or cooled separately, which will then pass through the jacket of the vessel under consideration. You can achieve better control of the temperature, and its a much neater design, but it obviously costs more.
