Hi, I need some help here.
Are there any references or information on the Ka values for different characteristics of a cooling tower. I will need this to calculate the height of the cooling tower.
In addition, I need to know how am I going to simulate the process of a cooling tower. Do I need to use HYSYS or something?
Please help me.
Thank you.

balex,
I can't imagine what it is you are trying to do, but I'm sure it won't be easy. If you're trying to design a cooling tower from first principles, let me be kind and simply say "forget it". No one does this and for good reason.
As general guidance to the uninitiated, when you are faced with an unfamiliar task, look around and see what others facing the same or similar situations are doing. Then, do the same thing. Any departures from this course should be based on your personal knowledge of how such departures will improve the design. Failure to follow this advise will quite likely lead to failure to produce workable solutions, safety and environmental issues, and almost always (unless the project is abandoned) higher costs than if you'd done it right in the first place. That's about the best advise I've ever posted here.

I'm in BE Chem Engg and working on cooling tower design and facing the same difficulty .... because no company which designs cooling tower gives or publishes this Ka value ..... you may ask your advisor what to do next because when i asked my advisor he told me to assume any value of Ka............Please do Share you work on cooling tower ........ if you say so I will share mine too.

hi,
I would say, as far as class room assignment is concern, cooling tower design is something like following the same steps that is already defined in various books. Without vendor information u can only reach upto the calculation of NTU, coz after this it becomes purely vendor related task. So is the case for working professional too, however with available data of past projects you can cross check Ka value, Loading factor (L) etc. But you cant stand on it firmly.
See below post too
http://www.cheresour...?showtopic=6017
so assume your ka value and loading factor value used in other books and try following the steps, rather getting into hysys or some simulators.
good luck...
