Charts of Hydraulic Institute for upper limits of specific speeds based on suction lift required & total head developed by pump for water at 85deg F are availlable. These are used in selection of a type of pump having specific speed less than the upper limit from chart to avoid cavitation. Can any body cite practical examples to make better understanding of this concept.

Also, it has been said that Type specific speed is independant of operating speed of pump, & is the same as long as the pump operates at BEP. Please state how it is possible. Cite some links on net where practical applications of above concepts is given.
