Hi,

I am currently an undergrad student doing a design project involving cleaning of coals. In the process, it is favourable to separate a combined stream containing aqeuous fluosilicic acid H2SiF6, hydrogen fluoride HF and water. The separated HF will then be recycled and redirected back to the process.

I am stuck in a predicament to separate a combined stream containing aqeuous fluosilicic acid H2SiF6, hydrogen fluoride HF and water. From my research, it is discovered that this mixture is a ternary azeotrope. There is no known information on how to size or design a distillation column for this kind of mixture.

Will anyone be able to help/direct me to any form of useful resources or advice to separate and design the process? Other methods besides distillation are also welcome for discussion.

Thanks in advance,

Justin
