Hey, I'm an NC State graduate. I have a BS in Food Science and work for a Biotech Company Biogen Idec. I work in manufacturing and am trying to get my masters in ChE to move my career ahead. To enroll in the masters program at NC State they have instructed me to complete a couple of courses that grant a "Foundations in Chemical Engineering" certificate. I've been out of school for a while so some of this is coming back to me slower than I'd like. Some are just problems I'm having understanding whether it be because of the book style not conducive to my learning style, whatever.

The course has moved into Energy balance and Entropy Balances. Here is a current problem I'm working on. Any help would be great.

One mole of an ideal monatomic gas, Cp=5R/2, in a variable volume piston/cylinder with a stirring paddle, an electric heater and a cooling coil through which refrigerant can flow. The piston is perfectly insulated. The piston contains 1 gmole of gas. the initial conditions are Ti=25C Pi=5bar.

part A states- heater is on, cooler is off, paddle is off, piston is fixed, 5KJ are added by the heater. Find DeltaU, DeltaS, DeltaP and DeltaT

I get dU=dQ so Q=deltaU. and Q=CvdT...input the given....5000J=12.47(Tf-25C), so Tf=425.9C
So I'm done with deltaU and deltaT

For deltaP....To/Po=Tf/Pf based on the ideal gas law. so I can find Pf and deltaP

For deltaS I'm using Cpln(T/To)-Rln(P/Po)

Does this all seem like sounds work?

If this is correct I'll post part B which plays off of all of this...so part A must be right to move on, lol.
