Hi all,

I'm making my university final project and I have an effluent stream with the following values:

Q = 15 lt/h

COD = 20000 mgO2/lt

Mainly water and butanol... I must turn COD to 500 mgO2/lt. I don't know what is more convenient: a steady state treatment or a batch process every 3 days.

Besides, I'd prefer a chemical oxidation process instead a biological one. So, what would be better, Fenton Process or Ozone oxidation? or any one else?

Well,
15 l/hr is a small flowrate. I would tend to go for a batch process.
Also, because we are speaking of butanol, I'd consider a batch distillation, that should leave fairly cleanwater in the drum.
The process is simple, and the investment small. I am well aware that it is not energy-efficient, but for 15 l/hr, who cares?
Other possibility is adsorption

Ozone will only oxidize all the way to carboxylic acids, I am not sure that's what you want, event if the final cod is low.

You should remove the butanol, one way of another (pervaporation, membranes, distillation)

so my choice would be
1) distillation or steam stripping, batch
2) adsorption on activated carbon ; AC could be regenerated
