Download Steam Tracing Calculator

Heat tracing is used to prevent heat loss from process fluids being transported in process fluid pipes, when there is risk of damage to piping, or interference with operation such
as fouling or blockage, caused by the congealing, increase in viscosity, or separation of components, in the fluid below certain temperatures, or when there is risk of formation of corrosive substances or water due to condensation in corrosive services. This prevention of heat loss is accomplished by employing electrical tracing, or steam tracing, and insulating both the process fluid pipe and the tracer together, using appropriate insulation lagging, in an attempt to minimise heat loss from the pipe and tracer to their surroundings.

The existing software that was used to design steam tracing had to be evaluated in terms of its accuracy and reliability, as problems associated with steam tracing designed with the existing software have occurred in the past.
A software simulation had to be designed that could compare theoretical inputs and outputs with that of an existing simulation used to design steam tracing, as well as compare it to existing installed steam tracing, in order to determine where improvements in the software could be made.

The new software had to use the outputs from the existing software as inputs and its outputs had to correspond to the inputs of the existing software. Other important evaluations were also included in the new software.

Sorry, clicked wrong rating!

It is a really nice Spreadsheet!

is there a reason why the Ambient Tempertatures have to be in a fixed range an not fully flexible?
Also more people are using Tube as the tracer, are there any plans to update to allow the use of Copper or Stainless OD Tube, rather than NPS pipe?

We're looking into why copper isn't showing up as a tracing material. It should be there.
It is a great caculator!!!!

In actual download file, I can not find the item "Maximum tracer length...." as shown on description

Is there any other file in this site?

h_charlie,

I believe that the "spacing between steam traps" calculation was removed in an earlier version. That calculation really depends on many other factors such as elevation changes and more.
Why is it that when I increase the number of tracers, the actual output process fluid temperature decreases? I have not changed any other variables (insulation, sizes, materials, pressures, temps) except for number of tracers to help get to my minimum allowable fluid temeprature but for some reason, the output temp decreases as the number of tracers increase. Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks.

I've sent a PM to the author and will await his reply.
Hi, I've downloaded the file and increased the number of tracers with the default inputs, but am not experiencing the same problem. When I increase the number of tracers, the output temperature increases, as expected. Can you give me the inputs you used?

Great tool for comparising using bare tube versus a channel. see also the site Thermon with CompuTrace St3.0 used program

I tried to download the file but each time I get an error message that the solver cannot ben installed. The error message displays that the add-in cannot be found and the library also cannot be found. Can you help me on this?

And second question. I am trying to design a tracer system on a parafine heating system bij a CV installation using water.
Anyone knows how to do these calcultaions?
Tnx already
