Solid-Liquid Mixing In Agitated Vessels (Just Suspended Speed)

in Ankur's_Chemical_Engg_Blog

Hi Ankur,

I came across this entry again and I am still not able to replicate your sample calculation below. I get 3.76 rps vs the 0.95 rps in your image. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Karsten

Solid-Liquid Mixing In Agitated Vessels (Just Suspended Speed)

in Ankur's_Chemical_Engg_Blog

Hi Ankur,

I came across your entry as I am looking into calculating the just-suspended mixing speed in agitated vessels. I tried to replicate your calculation but get a value of 3.76 rps for Njs. I wonder what I am missing. I checked the units and they all cancel out fine. Can you share the Excel file please? Thanks, Karsten

Production Of Triple Superphosphate

in Ankur's_Chemical_Engg_Blog
Double superphosphate (also known as triple superphosphate) is mainly used in the agricultural field, with specific applications as follows:
Agricultural fertilizers
Calcium superphosphate has a high content of available phosphorus (P ₂ O ₅) (36% -46%) and belongs to high concentration water-soluble phosphate fertilizer. It can be directly used as base fertilizer, topdressing or seed fertilizer, especially suitable for crops such as rice and wheat. Its phosphorus element can promote root development, enhance photosynthesis, and thus improve yield and quality.  ‌
Compound fertilizer raw materials
Due to its stable composition and low price, it is often used as a raw material for producing compound fertilizers, especially for formulating high nitrogen compound fertilizers.  ‌
Other purposes
Partially superphosphate is also used in glass manufacturing, plastic stability treatment, and livestock feed additives, but agricultural use is its core application area.  ‌

Production Of Triple Superphosphate

in Ankur's_Chemical_Engg_Blog

As the production process of TSP is the same as that for normal superphosphate, can it be possible to produce TSP in SSP plant with some modifications of feeding phosphoric acid?

Shell And Tube Heat Exchanger Cost Estimation

in Ankur's_Chemical_Engg_Blog

Hello. It was interesting to read your article! I am a representative of the Russian engineering company LOTUS. We develop software for the calculation and design of individual shell-and-tube heat exchangers. Our program ("LOTUS STHE" - shell and tube heat exchangers) automatically estimates the mass and cost of manufacturing the device it has developed. We will be glad to find partners here!

Empirical Equations For Pressure Drop In Crude Oil And White Oil Pipelines

in Ankur's_Chemical_Engg_Blog

This information is valuable, thanks for posting it.  I have already used it for an important purpose.

I compared the result of the Shell-MIT equation for crude oil to that obtained from a chart constructed by J. C. Parker in 1910, published by Lefax in 1941.

Given the slight inaccuracies when reading charts, the results were essentially identical.  This gave me a good deal of pleasure.  It inspires confidence in the calculations.

Solid-Liquid Mixing In Agitated Vessels (Just Suspended Speed)

in Ankur's_Chemical_Engg_Blog

Hi ankur,

thanks to share this with us.

I have a question. I need to calculate the needed torque for the Impeller. Is it simply achieved by the T=r.V formulation? it means just multiply the speed of impeller to its radius?

regards

Shakila,

Have a look at eqn (2) in the link below:

Dielectric Constant Data Required For Guided Wave Radar Type Level Transmitters

in Ankur's_Chemical_Engg_Blog

Hi. I cannot seem to locate equation 2 (I == 0.328*v-0.003*SG0.915---------- (2))

in the hdyocarbons.pdf reference.  Is that equation in the Riazi, Roomi reference?  I asked for a copy of the full text of that on ResearchGate.  Hopefully I will get get it.

Edit:  Nevermind.  I found it.  Thanks.  Thanks for this post by the way.  Very helpful.
