Available Tube Length For Heat Exchanger

Hello Everybody

I am writing to ask if anyone colud tell me where I can find a complete technical specifications for heat exchangers tubes, specially the length.

I need to know which is the maximum length.

The limitation is applied on tube diameter (maximum around 2") rather than the length...

Refer TEMA standard for standard tube length, but as Bobby pointed out you can have the length as per your requirement.

From TEMA Standard, 9th. ed.: "The following tube lengths for both straight and U-tube exchangers are commonly used: 96 (2438), 120 (3048), 144 (3658), 192 (4877) and 240 (6096) in. (mm). Other lengths may be used".

20 feet is a 'normal' maximum for a removable bundle. For fixed tubesheet exchangers, 24 foot is generally the maximum but I have seen 30 feet used. Longer tubes can be awkward to clean and the plot space requirement can be inconvenient. For a student project, I suggest choosing 20 feet as standard. In real life applications, tube length is dictated by pressure drop, capital cost, available space, tubeside velocity. The balancing act for competing requirements is part of what makes exchanger designing fun.
