Has anyone ever had the following error when starting up AspenPlus?

"Failed to initialize the Aspen Properties Enterprise Database.

Configuration file can not be found in C:\ProgramData\AspenTech\APED V8.6\HRBACM\config.aem

Please use the Aspen Properties Database Configuration Tester to diagnose and fix the problem."
I run the configuration tester but that fails too.  I'm not really sure where to go from here.

Anyone encountered this before?

Thanks!

I suggest you go to https://support.aspentech.com/ for technical support. Your error message is addressed there as a result of other users with this problem.

Misamate,

I figured out that my temporary admin rights on my computer had expired before aspen finished installing.  I had to uninstall and reinstall all of aspen to get this to work.

good luck

Dear Chrbc,

Are you still facing the same problem after reinstalling? I am facing the same problem with version 8.4 and after reinstalling the problem is still there. I am using windows 10 pro 32 bit and  have tried both 2012 and 2014 version of sql server(mixed mode authentication ). What version of microsoft os you are using? Do you have any other possible solution?

Thnx

After installing Aspen 8.4 with windows 8, have not faced the problem. It may be the problem of Aspen 8.4 with windows 10 .

GiacomoF,

yes, the problem is with windows 10. Aspen 8.8 is working perfectly on Windows 10 and if possible use Aspen 8.8.

Regards,

Bitan

Hi, I don't have a good writing...so basically I got the same error message...but I wanted to launch Aspen Hysys 8.4 without the APED problem ( None of specified aped databases are accessiblehence you cannot use....).

So I'll make it easy and I'll write what I did. It's important to say that I had windows 8.1 then I got Windows 10 Home, and the rest you know.

1. First, launch Database Tester - Aspen Properties v8.4. Press start and if you are lucky it will fix the connections. In my case the last message was the creating: config.aem. So that's basically the problem. But if you got many errors (Like me) try the following:

2. Lines Above Britan 729 explains how to configure SQL Server. So I had to uninstall...try to install...update...and finally install. Don't forget to put Mixed mode Authentication.

3. Download: Aspen Engineering - Installation Guide (154 pages) Or mail me.

4. In page 83 follow the steps of Configuring Microsoft SQL Server until page 91. The firewall part...for me it was impossible. So I skipped that part.

So that's all. Hope you can fix that problem.

Saludos,

Hugo Mena

[FIXED]

To fix this issue on Aspen 8.4 on Windows 10, I did as follows

  1. Go to the shared folder: C:\ProgramData\AspenTech\APED V8.X (where X is your current version)
  2. Right click on DeleteDBInstance.bat run as Administrator. (This batch file will drop any database from restoring that is
incomplete. It also deletes the instance of LocalDB you own and the folder named by your
       Window logon.)
  3. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\AspenTech\AprSystem V8.X\PropertiesDatabase\Bin (or wherever you've installed) open the file dbTesterAdv.exe
  4. Click on Start

Finally, your config.aem file will be created.

Hope be useful,

Cheers.
