Kepin:

  • Tell us what you specifically mean by "optimum".
  • Also tell us what you mean by "any refrigeratio system".

From: Answers.com:

"The coefficient of performance is the ratio of the heat removed at the colder temperature to the work required to do it. Like many other figures of merit (the efficiency of an engine, the miles per gallon your car gets, ) the coefficient of performance measures the ratio of what you get (heat moved out of the box) to what you have to pay for (work from the electric company). But unlike the efficiency of an engine, the number can be greater than one. Because the temperature difference is small compared to the absolute temperature of the box, the energy expended to run the refrigerator is less than the energy moved from the inside to the outside."

If what you are trying to ask us is related to a mechanical refrigeration system, then go to the following website for an excellent example of how the COP varies with the enthalpy values of the working refrigerant.

It depends on the Refrigeration Cycle Type:

-Carnot cycle has the highest COP (5-6)
-Vapor-compression process with a reversible expansion engine has a little bit lower COP (5-5.5)
-Ordinary vapor-compression cycle (with expansion valve) has lower COP than above two types (4-5)
-And finally,an air cycle has lowest COP (2-2.5)

*Numbers are typical values.
