Dear all,

Is there any one familiar with the step by step procedure of determining
dissolution tank volume?

The tank is required to dissolved soda ash to 25% weight solution
agitation will be provided in the tank
and the process will be on continous basis

HI erwin ,

Are you talking the dissolution of soda ash in water ?
http://www.fmcchemic...ge&handling.pdf

I 've experience with the preparation of a milk of soda ash ( water + light soda ash) where the Na2CO3 from a silo is fed to a reactor using a screw feeder . At the discharge of the screw feedder we have had a device to disperse the solid with water like a cyclone prior to enter the mixing tank .

Hope it helps

Hi Breizh,

I already get the data, before
but my worries is wheter the residence time for the mixture
in the tank is enough or not

how you determine the volume of the tank, and how you
ensure that the mixing are complete. since my operation is
in continous operation and I want to make sure the outlet product is
constant as it effect the downstream operation

But it is a good idea to add the soda ash dispersion device at the inlet
I'll put that in the design

Hi ,
Make sure you have all the data about solubility (25% seems high to me )

Yes Breizh,

We are waiting for the dissolution rate data, to be provided by the chemical supplier
the 25% is not for the consumption but it will be dilute more to 10% before consumption

I think the saturation of soda ash solution it lies at around 32% so
we believe 25% is achieveable

Anyway can you give me some sketch regarding to the inlet device design?
my email address is erwin.apriandi@gmail.com

I was thinking that the device will be a conical shape
with powder inlet at the top bigger portion of the cone
and water inlet at side of the cone. and the mixture outlet
at the smaller part of the cone

By the way, I also trying to have this dissolution unit as a package
is there any vendor that you refer for this kind of unit?

Erwin ,
Will try to find more data and will revert to you ASAP .For the design of the equipment you are right ( Liquid on tangent of the cylindric part( cyclone effect) and Product on the top (from screw feeder) .
For continuous process , consider to add a sensor to detect pluggage and stop the soda ash feed.
