Hi, Can anyone help?

I am having problems calculating or finding any suitable material to determine a calculation regarding:

A gas boiler with a force draught gas burner firing into a secional boiler. I need to calculate the heat transfer of the products of combustion through the heat exchanger.

i assume it will be radiation, conduction and convection with approx 10% losses via flue and casing lossess etc

Any suggestion where to start?

Thanks

Martin

Martin:

This is a combustion problem leading to a heat exchange problem. You must resolve what is happening in the combustion section first by making a stoichiometric calculation and identifying what the products of combustion are - qualitatively and quantitatively. That means you produce a complete flue gas analysis.

With the flue gas analysis and the combustion temperature you find the film coefficients on the flue gas side and you calculate the overall heat transfer coefficient. Knowing the total heat produced by the combustion, the flue gas analysis, the overall U, and the Log Mean Temperature Difference, you can calculate the heat transfer area.
